The North Shore Navigators managed to get vengeance on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks Friday night after the team ended the Navigators’ five game win streak on Thursday. In front of a great crowd at Fraser Field, the Navigators played a complete game and managed to beat the Sharks by a final score of 8-0.
The story of the game for the Navigators was the amazing effort they got out of their pitching staff. Starter Bobby Tramondozzi (UMass Boston) set the tone for the team and pitched five shutout innings. In the first inning, he got out of a jam and from there was absolutely dominant.
Tramondozzi’s great effort was following by three strong inning of work for Jake Dexter (Southern Maine). Dexter led the team in strikeouts with four, and he only allowed three hits during his outing. It was another strong relief performance for the Navigators two-way player. Following that, Al Wallach (Framingham State) came on to finish the job, going one inning and striking out two in that time frame.
On offense, the Navigators got some serious power out of a couple of their newer players. Christian Cabrera (Broward CC), playing in his fifth game for the Navigators, hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Later in the game, Colby Maiola, playing in his first game as a member of the team, sailed a three-run shot far over the right field fence to give the Navs an insurmountable lead.
Elsewhere on offense, Navigators shortstop Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas) went 4-4 on the night and managed to score three runs over the course of the game. He kept his 19-game streak of reaching base alive, and managed to raise his batting average to .307.
The Navigators will be back in action on this evening at 6 p.m. for the final game of their six-game home stand. They will take on the Seacoast Mavericks in their special Christmas in June game. During the game, there will be a silent jersey auction where fans can try to win the shirt of their favorite player.
