A three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth proved to be the difference as the North Shore Navigators fell, 7-6, to the Nashua Silver Knights on Tuesday.
The Navigators dropped to 1-8 with the loss, while the Silver Knights continue their early season surge and are now 7-2.
The Navs scored a season-high six runs while pounding nine hits. Most of that offense was produced in the late innings of the contest. The Navs trailed 4-1 after four innings, but Tyler Kapuscinski (Marist) singled in Daane Berezo (Virginia Commonwealth) to make it 4-2. Later in the inning Nick Falkson (Tufts) scored and made it a 4-3 game. The Navs tied it in the sixth when Alex Brickman (Siena) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
The Navs were led by newcomer Nick Falkson (Tufts), who continued his hot start with a 2-for-6 performance. Nick Fuhrmann (Frederick CC) went 1-for-4, blasting a solo home run in the seventh to give the Navs a 5-4 lead.
For the Silver Knights, reigning Player of the Week Ryan Sullivan (Southern NH) went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Ethan Joyce (Southern Connecticut) went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Navigators had a one-run lead heading to the bottom of the eighth inning but the Silver Knights fought back by scoring three unanswered runs to take a 7-5 lead thanks in part to bases loaded walks drawn by Cam Cook (Nichols) and Tom Blandini (SHHU) and an RBI single from Cam Cruz (Eastern Michigan).
The Navs return home to face the Brockton Rox tonight, with first pitch scheduled from Fraser Field at 7 p.m.
