Students from Hood School in Lynn enjoy a morning at the ballpark to see the North Shore Navigators.
It was school field trip day at Fraser Field Wednesday morning for the North Shore Navigators, and 3,242 fans piled into the stadium.
However, the Navigators’ rough start continued for at least another day as they lost to the Nashua Silver Knights, 6-0.
It was the fourth meeting between the two teams in the last six days.
Though the Navigators struggled to start the game, they got a great effort from a trio of relievers. The first to come in the game was Brett Sasse (Nebraska-Omaha), who pitched 2 2/3 innings, recorded three strikeouts and allowed one earned run.
After Sasse, the Navs used St. Mary’s graduate Clay Yianacopolus (Assumption College) and Sean O’Neill (Brandeis University). Each worked an inning and struck out one and allowed a hit. All three helped to shut down the high powered Silver Knights’ offense late in the game.
Mack Nathanson (Wofford) went 2-4 and cracked a triple in the ninth inning.
Leadoff man Joey Pena (St. Thomas Aquinas) reached base twice, going 1-for-3 with a hit and a walk to raise his batting average to .278.
The Navigators are back in action tonight against the Seacoast Mavericks at 7 p.m. at Fraser Field.

Patrick Salvi, owner of the Navigators, has been awarded the the inaugural Tommy Lasorda Legends Award. The award was created by the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame to honor contributions that a person has made to the game of baseball.
“Pat receiving this award just further demonstrates the leadership that he has taken on in baseball. He has shown a commitment to the sport and deserves recognition for his efforts,” said Navigators General Manager Bill Terlecky.
Salvi bought the North Shore Navigators before their 2012 season. When Salvi took over the team he elected to have the Navigators switch leagues. Previously, the team had played in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), but they made the switch to the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL), which began its operations in 2011. They have played in the FCBL for the past four seasons.
During his tenure as the Navigators owner, Salvi has helped the team become respected league wide. In 2015, the Navigators set a franchise record in wins, earning 33 victories under new field manager John Zizzo. They hosted the FCBL All-Star Game as well and because of the superb performance by the Navigators in general, they were awarded the 2015 FCBL Organization of the Year Award.
Aside from the Navigators, Salvi is also the owner of the Schaumburg Boomers, an independent team in the Frontier League, and the Gary South Shore Railcats, an independent team in the American Association. With those teams, Salvi has earned an Organization of the Year award once (2013 with the Boomers) and has captured three league championships (one with the Railcats and two with the Boomers).
