The North Shore Navigators had a tough night against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks, falling 9-1 in the first game of a three-game home stand at Fraser Field. In front of a crowd of nearly 1,000 people, the Navigators dropped their second game in a row after a seven-game win streak to make their record on the season 26-26.
The Navigators got a strong effort out of their starting pitcher Jake Dexter (Southern Maine). Dexter pitched five clean innings to begin the night, shutting out the Sharks and striking out four batters. He looked like he had good command over his pitches and was working at a quick pace. He did tire out in the sixth inning, but he still had a solid performance on the night.
The Navigators also got a solid effort from their relief pitcher Al Wallach (Framingham State). Wallach pitched the final inning. He faced only four batters and was the only Navigators pitcher not to allow a run on the evening.
On offense, the Navigators were unable to score much, but they did managed to get a solid number of base runners. The only run of the night came on a Jordan Roper (Marist College) double that scored Nick Falkson, who had reached on a base hit.
The best offensive player of the night for the team was MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State). Singleton put forth a strong effort and recorded a three hit game, going 3-for-5 on the night. He constantly made good contact in his at-bats and was certainly the most threatening player for the team.
Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell) also put together a solid showing going 2-for-4 on the night. That helped him to raise his season average to .246.
The Navigators will return to action on Wednesday, August 4 at Fraser Field when they take on the Bristol Blues. First pitch for the game will take place at 7:00 p.m. The two teams will also be continuing play in a game that was suspended after 17 innings. They will resume that game at 6:00 p.m.
