After a 17-inning affair with the Bristol Blue that saw no conclusion due to the FCBL’s curfew, the North Shore Navigators got a much better result on Thursday morning. In front of nearly 2,000 fans on Kids Day, the Navigators crushed the Blues, 14-1, to move into third place in the standings.
The Navigators got an excellent effort from starting pitcher Jake Dexter (Southern Maine). After using seven of their pitchers Wednesday, Dexter gave the Navs the performance they needed. He worked eight innings and only allowed one run. The first seven innings were scoreless for Dexter, who added three strikeouts in the outing. His stellar performance on the mound allowed the Navigators to build an insurmountable lead.
Offensively, the Navs exploded, thanks in part to a big fifth inning. They were already sporting a 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth, when Jordan Roper (Marist College) got on base via a walk to start the inning. He later scored on a Mike D’Acunti (Southeastern University) triple. D’Acunti would come in on a Nick DiBenedetto (Trinity College) single that made the score 6-0.
Following that, Christian Cabrera (Broward CC) cracked a double that brought home DiBenedetto and Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell). Cabrera would score shortly after on a double by MacDaniel Singleton, making the game 9-0. They would tack on one more run at the end of the inning to make it 10-0.
Singleton went 4-for-4 to raise his average to .329. He also produced four runs during the game by tallying two RBIs and scoring twice.
DiBenedetto also had a strong game at the plate, going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs with an RBI.
The Navigators will return to action on Friday, July 29 for a Firework Friday game against the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the fireworks display will take place immediately after the game. For more information on upcoming games, events, and promos, visit nsnavs.com.
