LYNN — The Lynn Tech boys lacrosse program has been cancelled for the remainder of the season. However, athletic director Joe Skeadas promised Wednesday that those interested in playing next year can join the cooperative that exists now between Classical and English.
The three schools have a similar arrangement in ice hockey. Several years ago, Tech folded its hockey program. Players from the school joined Classical and English, which merged to form the Lynn Jets.
The combined lacrosse teams is also called the Jets.
The Tigers’ boys lacrosse schedule had six games to go, including an intra-city matchup with the Jets.
Skeadas said the coaches, including interim head coach Adam Saltzman, will continue to conduct practices in anticipation of the students joining the Classical-English team next season.
The Lynn Youth Lacrosse program was discontinued many years ago, and that’s one of the big reasons for the lack of numbers at Tech, Skeadas said.
“With no feeder system, it is difficult to get the numbers for our varsity program,” he said.
Peter Pappagianopoulos, Lynn Jets coach, earlier said that his team was bolstered by the Classical and English hockey players who signed on to play lacrosse.
