Despite multiple-goal games from three players on Tuesday, the St. Mary’s Spartans boys lacrosse team didn’t have enough firepower to get past the Essex Tech Hawks, losing 12-7 at Manning Field. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 4-4 on the season.
Anthony Delvecchio, Nico Scali and Alec Matho scored two goals each, while Nick Napolitano added the seventh goal for St. Mary’s. Goalie Brendon Donahue played a great game despite the loss, recording 15 saves.
“We certainly worked hard and hustled out there, the loss definitely did not come from lack of effort,” said St. Mary’s coach Josh Field. “But what I did tell the guys is that we still have plenty to improve on. We made some unforced errors out there and had some poor shot selection, and when we play good teams that works against us. But those things are all correctable, and that’s the message. We’re just going to keep working and trying to get better as a lacrosse team.”
