The Spartans earned a huge league win over Arlington Catholic, 4-1, on Saturday evening at Connery Rink.
Conor Foley led St. Mary’s (12-1) with two goals, while goalie Andrew LoRusso recorded 18 stops, several of which came early in the game when the score was tight.
Eric Pedro added two assists for the Spartans, and freshman Nick Napolitano scored his first career varsity goal.
Despite not having its “A” game, St. Mary’s coach Mark Lee said he was pleased with his team’s effort, which culminated in a big win over a high-caliber opponent.
Peabody 6, Saugus 0
The Tanners cruised past the Sachems on Saturday, with six different players scoring goals for Peabody.
Donnie Shaw was the first to bury the puck with assists from Nick Merryman and Aaron Dollin. Ethan LeBlanc scored off an assist from Connor McCarron.
Dan Pratto got the scoring started in the second with his first varsity goal. Pratto would later assist Cam Anderson’s first varsity goal. McCarron and Owen Brewster also scored for Peabody.
Aaron McDonnell made 18 saves in the net for the Tanners.
Swampscott 5, Salem 2
Salem struck first early in the first period, but Louis Olivieri tied it up for Swampscott late in the first with an assist from Steve Santanello. Olivieri finished the night with two goals and an assist. Mike Johnson, Andrew Dove, and Dante Ceccarelli also scored for Swampscott. Johnson and Santanello had two assists apiece, while Dom Codispoti and David Peterson also added assists.
Newburyport 4, Lynnfield 1
The Pioneers gave up a shorthanded goal to Newburyport in the first period on Saturday on the road, and the Clippers struck again soon after to put Lynnfield in an early 2-0 hole.
Robert LoConte found the back of the net for Lynnfield in the third period, but the Pioneers couldn’t capitalize on their other scoring opportunities.
Bishop Fenwick 5, Latin Academy 2
Rob Murphy came up big for the Crusaders with two goals and an assist. Eric Giguere, Evan Beers and Tyler Layton also had goals for Fenwick.
Malden Catholic 1, St. John’s Prep 0
It was a battle between No. 2 Malden Catholic and No. 3 St. John’s Prep, and Sean Wrenn’s power-play goal in the second period was all the offense the Lancers needed on Saturday.
Eagles’ goalie Kyle Martin returned to the ice after missing the team’s previous two games with an illness, and made 23 stops for the Prep.
Gloucester 6, Revere 2
Sal Costanzo had a big night with a hat trick for the Fishermen (6-5-1), while his teammate Liam Lyons scored twice in a rout of Revere.
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
Peabody/Lynnfield 2, Marblehead 2
The Tanners jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the road at Salem State on Sunday, with Elise Murphy and Cassie Mirasolo scoring within a minute of each other at the end of the period. Murphy earned the assist on Mirasolo’s goal.
The Magicians clawed their way back in, with Sydney Cresta scoring late in the second and Bella Peters finding the back of the net with the equalizer at 5:40 in the third.
Peabody/Lynnfield goalie Dana Smullen came up with a big save late in the third to keep the game even. Smullen entered the game late, with Abby Buckley facing 30 shots before Smullen took over. Marblehead goalie Sarah Ryan faced seven shots.
Auburn 5, Bishop Fenwick 1
The Crusaders fell to 5-7-1 after a tough loss at home. Meghan Carney scored Fenwick’s only goal with assists from Caitlin Carney and Lauren Coccoluto.
