All good things must come to an end. And for Bishop Fenwick, that came Friday night.
The Crusaders hadn’t lost a regular-season game since 2012, when they suffered back-to-back defeats to St. Mary’s and Archbishop Williams.
Friday, the Bishops did it to Fenwick again, as the Crusaders fell to Williams, 23-6 in Braintree.
“They’re very good,” said Fenwick coach Dave Woods. “And we didn’t play our best game by any shot. But that has more to do with them than with us. They played very tough. They took it to us right away. Punched us in the mouth right away. And it was a case of too little, too late for us.”
Williams was up 15-0 late in the first half when Isaiah Cashwell-Doe scored on a five-yard run. Fenwick missed the two-point conversion and trailed 15-6 at the break.
Fenwick is back in action next Friday at Austin Prep.
Winthrop 14, Salem 0
At Bertram Field in Salem, the Vikings grabbed their first win of the season thanks to a 7-yard touchdown run by Jon Gonzalez in the first quarter and a 4-yard TD pass from quarterback Chris Zuffante to Jaidon Brown in the third.
Linebacker Matt Tarantino was the Vikings’ leading tackler, and came up with two crucial stuffs in the fourth quarter when Salem and a first-and-goal at the 1-yard line.
Salem’s record is 2-2.
Gloucester 34, Revere 14
At Newell Stadium in Gloucester, nothing went right for the winless Patriots offensively save for Victor Rivera, who pounded out 130 yards on the ground, including a 70-yard touchdown run.
“It was a rough night,” said Revere coach Lou Cicatelli. “We threw some picks, we had some fumbled snaps … the offense just couldn’t get it going. Our defense was on the field an awful long time.”
Cicatelli singled out John DiSimone and Anthony DiStefano as having played well on defense.
Jonathan Murphy scored Revere’s other touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Revere is at home against Saugus Friday.
