The Lynn Classical/Revere golf team lost its season-opening match to Saugus, 40 1/2 – 31 1/2, on Tuesday at Cedar Glen Golf Course.
Senior Steven Patrie got things started for Classical/Revere, winning his match 5-4.
“Anytime you can win in the one spot, that’s a good thing,” Classical/Revere coach Jack Morrison said of Patrie’s match. “You’re up against the top of the league there. That was a nice win for him in the one spot.”
Junior Sean Devin also contributed, winning his match 5 1/2-3 1/2.
“Sean played steady like he usually does,” Morrison said. “He’s very reliable.”
Sophomore Brendan Lannon also had a good outing for Classical/Revere, tying in his match 4 1/2 to 4 1/2.
Despite the loss, Morrison said he noticed improvements from his team.
“We only lost by nine so we’re making strides,” Morrison said.
He added, “Even though we lost a close match there were signs that we’re getting better. That’s always a good thing.”
Classical/Revere’s next match is on Monday against Peabody at Gannon.
