SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott baseball team teed off on four Marblehead pitchers Friday, cranking out 18 hits that produced 15 runs in a 15-2 win over the Magicians.
The barrage included homers by Leo Wile, Gavin Sullivan and Matt Hubauer.
Corey Bleau was on the mound for Swampscott, and said it was great to get all that run support, and even better to see his teammates hit the ball after being stifled Wednesday by Saugus hurler Steve Ruggiero.
“It was good to see our guys hit the ball so well after we lost to Saugus,” Bleau said. “Coach (Jason Calichman) said to shake off that Saugus game and focus on Marblehead, and we did that.”
Swampscott went up 2-0 in the first, Wile then hit a 2-run homer to double the lead in the third, and Sullivan cranked a 3-run shot into the woods to make it 7-0. Hubauer also hit a 2-run shot, and had knocked in two more with a single.
Calichman said everything came together for his team at the plate, and that Bleau gave the Blue another great outing on the mound.
“We did a good job today, we came to play and we won it,” Calichman said. “You’ve got to come to play every time out, anybody can beat anybody in this league if you don’t come to play. We hit great and pitched well today.”
Marblehead avoided the shutout with two runs in the top of the seventh. With the bases full, Drew Bisegna walked bringing in Josh Tassinari. Garrett Keough hit a sacrifice fly that brought in Tim Kalinowski with the final run of the day.
Both teams are now 5-1.
