The Lynn Classical baseball team imposed its will in a 13-2 rout of visiting Winthrop on Wednesday evening at Fraser Field.
Freshman David Barnard held the Vikings’ bats at bay over six effective innings of work, featuring three strikeouts and a single walk, while his own offense, led by the senior class, provided him with the necessary support and then some.
Matt Lauria (4-for-4, 2 runs) and Brandon Devin (1-for-2) had four RBI each for the Rams who improved to 5-3 with the win. Andre Gaudet, Matt Stanley and junior Tyler Way added a hit and a RBI apiece, with the latter scoring three runs.
Peabody 8, Marblehead 1
The Tanners, now 5-3, got off to a good start against the Magicians on Wednesday afternoon and never looked back. Jake Zeuli went a solid six innings, only allowing one hit with two strikeouts and one walk. Zeuli also provided some offense, going 2-for-2 with three RBI.
Ben Irvine and Jake Doherty each scored two runs.
Fenwick 1, Archbishop Williams 0
JP Reiling pitched a complete game shutout over the Bishops, allowing only two hits while striking out nine, bringing the Crusaders overall record to 5-3 on the season.
Simon Gonzalez hit a RBI double, scoring Matt Townsend with the winning run. Fenwick played flawless defense behind the strong pitching of Reiling, according to coach Kevin Canty.
Saugus 13, Revere 4
The host Sachems improved to 5-4 behind a stellar day from their junior class, including pitcher Steve Ruggiero, who pitched six innings to earn the win, ending three innings with strikeouts.
The right-hander scattered six hits while fanning seven in total.
Offensively, Saugus was led by Brett Morey (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Nick Rusconi (3 walks, RBI) while freshman second baseman Ronnie Paolo helped turn two double plays on defense.
Beverly 10, Salem 0
Dominant starting pitching from the Panthers was the story, as they overpowered Salem, bringing their season record to 5-3. Rocky Pisa pitched a complete game, allowing two hits with eight strikeouts.
On the offensive side, Matt Enos had two hits with three RBI and Sean Hanlon had two hits and two RBI. Nick Cotraro added three hits as well.
“(Pisa) was in command all game, we played good defense and hit which are all recipes for success,” said coach Dave Wilbur.
Malden Catholic 7, St. John’s Prep 2
St. John’s struggled against the strong pitching of Malden Catholic, falling to 6-3 on the season.
Chris Francoeur hit a solo home run for the Eagles and Shawn McGibbons had an RBI single.
