It all came together for the Lynn English baseball team in an impressive 11-1 victory over visiting Revere on Wednesday at Fraser Field.
The Bulldogs bats busted out in a big way with three players recording three hits apiece, including Brett Molea, who finished with five RBI. Wilbur Rosario, three runs, and Rafi Ruiz both recorded three hits each in the win.
The hosts scored twice in each of the first two frames before breaking the game wide open with a four-run fourth inning.
“Hopefully this warmer weather continues to mean hotter bats,” said coach Joe Caponigro. “I’ve already seen a lot of improvement since our first game but there’s still work to be done.”
Denny Santana pitched a gem to pick up his first win of the season, allowing an unearned run in the third inning while striking out four and walking none.
“He was extremely effective today, particularly at getting ahead in counts,” said Caponigro, whose team now prepares for their city-rivals in Lynn Classical, on Friday.
Danvers 4, Classical 2
The Falcons (5-0) struck for all four of their runs in the bottom of the seventh to shock the Rams who had taken the lead in the sixth on a Matt Lauria two-run single. Classical (2-3) received a strong outing from Matt Stanley who threw a complete game, striking out three along the way.
Saugus 2, Swampscott 1
The Sachems hung on for a big victory over the Big Blue, led by Steve Ruggiero who picked up his first varsity win in a complete game effort, striking out five along the way.
Alex Pettenati drove in two runs for Saugus (2-3), the former on a single in the third inning (scoring Pat Murray) and the latter on a double in the fifth, plating Nick Rusconi who had previously doubled. Sachems centerfielder Kurt Martin provided the defensive highlight of an error free game, throwing out a runner at the plate in the fourth inning.
Swampscott’s C.J. Howard went the distance as well, allowing two earned runs and two walks while striking out four. Louis Oliveri went 2-for-3 with a RBI, Jake Cooper had two hits and a walk, Sean Lahrizi went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and Matt Hubauer went 1-for-3.
Marblehead 11, Salem 0
Tedd York (2-for-2, two walks, hit by pitch) and Spencer Carr (1-for-1, four walks) reached base in all five plate appearances for the Magicians who improved to 5-0.
Cole Garventi (two-run single), Braden Haley (2-for-4, two RBI) and Tim Kalinowski (1-for-3, RBI, two walks, two runs) all had big games for Marblehead who received four strong innings from Jake Hamelburg, who scattered three hits. Pete Morrison and Jeff Stern combined to throw three innings of hitless relief against the host Witches (1-3).
Sam Ramirez went 1-for-3 for Salem in the loss.
Peabody 13, Beverly 7
Trailing 7-3 into the fourth inning, the Tanners rallied to within one before breaking the game open with a seven-run fifth, highlighted by a two-run homer run by Chris Gillen (2-for-5, five RBI). Jake Doherty finished 2-for-2 with three RBI for Peabody (3-3, 3-1 NEC) who got big offensive days from Ben Irvine (2-for-4, RBI) and Nick Palma (three RBI).
