LYNNFIELD — Behind a monstrous 192 yards and two touchdowns from Matt Andreas, the Danvers football team continued its hot start and raised its record to 2-0 with a 30-14 victory over Lynnfield Friday night at Pioneer Stadium.
The Falcons hit the scoreboard with only 33.2 seconds remaining in the first quarter when Andreas powered in a three-yard touchdown run after a 10-play drive that started at his own 10-yard line.
Danvers’ offensive line controlled the pace of the game as it simply overpowered the Pioneers to move slowly up the field to keep Pioneers off the field.
The Falcons enhanced its lead to 14-0 in the second quarter when Justin Mullaney hit Tahg Coakley with a 14-yard fade route for the score with 5:20 left in the half. However, just before the half the Pioneers answered as quarterback Matt Mortellite found Nick Kinnon in the back of the end zone to cut the deficit in half.
In the third quarter, Danvers retaliated to take a 22-7 edge after Andreas found the end zone for the second time of the night with a 12-yard run. Colby Holland converted on the two-point conversion to make it 22-7. Still in the third, Lynnfield’s Kinnon broke out for a 57-yard touchdown after receiving a short pass from Mortellite that was able to get him in the end zone with two great blocks from his offensive line.
However, that would be the final score for the Pioneers as the Falcons went on to add another touchdown on a Mullaney quarterback sneak. To make it 30-14
Danvers’ offense had an impressive 23 first downs, which allowed its defense a lot of rest while giving Lynnfield’s offense no time to operate. Coakley went over the 100-yard mark as well for the Falcons with nine rushes.
Kinnon led the way for the Pioneers with 130 yards of total offense including the 57-yard touchdown.
The Pioneers will travel to Amesbury next Friday (7) while the Falcons take on Marblehead on the same date and time.
