The Nahant Woman’s Club is hosting “The Enchantment of Cambodia,” performed by the Angkor Dance Troupe, on Friday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m.
Proceeds from the event at Nahant Town Hall will sponsor scholarships and provide donations to youth-centered organizations such as Girls Inc. of Lynn. This will kick off the group’s 122nd year, said Cheryl Conte, club member and spokeswoman.
“We are excited for this night,” Conte said. “Our club hosts a number of programs throughout the year, and we are excited to be working with the Cambodian community. This troupe is very well regarded in the dance world. I have seen them perform and they are mesmerizing.”
The event will include guest speaker Dahvy Tran, the troupe’s interim executive director. She will talk about the history and culture of the group and its members. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children. They are available at [email protected].
The Nahant Woman’s Club was formed in 1895 as a social group. It has 87 active members. Today it directs its energies toward fundraising events in order to provide scholarships to local youth, as well as donations to child-centered charities, such as Girls Inc. and The Mass. Coalition for the Homeless’ Bed for Every Child Program.
Club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, and there are usually about 40 women present,” said Conte. The annual membership fee is $35. Membership is open to all women who call the North Shore home. For additional information, go to the town’s website, Nahant.org.
