MARBLEHEAD — A 16-inch water main running under West Shore Drive broke after developing a crack on Tuesday afternoon.
Water service may be disrupted in the area through the night, according to the Marblehead Water and Sewer Department.
Work crews are on scene and West Shore Drive is closed in both directions. Road blocks and detours are in place at the intersection of West Shore Drive and Lafayette Street. All inbound traffic to West Shore Drive is being diverted down Lafayette Street.
All outbound West Shore Drive traffic is being diverted left onto Cornell Road (by the Tower School).
It is unknown how long the work will take or how long the road will need to be closed but there is currently a lot of equipment in the roadway, according to Marblehead Police.
