SWAMPSCOTT — Construction on the town’s second assisted living facility is moving along, with completion expected next summer.
A dedication ceremony for The Residence at Vinnin Square, a $17 million, 84-apartment project, located at 224 Salem St., was held on Wednesday. The development team, LCB Senior Living, hosted the event, which offered attendees, including local and state officials, a closer look at the ongoing work.
“This is a great place to age with dignity, and I think everyone deserves to age with dignity,” said state Rep. Lori Ehrlich (D-Marblehead).
Sen. Thomas McGee (D-Lynn) agreed, saying that the facility is going to be a great addition to the community and region.
Construction began last fall after the the Norwood-based developers received their final permitting from the town. The Zoning Board of Appeals approved the plan for a new 76,000 square foot assisted living facility in June 2015. Land records show that LCB purchased the property last November for $4 million.
The town has one assisted living facility already, the Bertram House of Swampscott, on Humphrey Street.
The Residence at Vinnin Square comprises of independent and assisted living, along with a memory care community. The Reflections Memory Care Program is through a partnership with Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital and is designed to support those with early stage dementia.
The new facility will cater to people 55 and older, with the typical resident being an 85-year-old woman. The apartments are a mix of studios and one-and two-bedroom apartments ranging from $4,000 to $7,500 a month.
The facility is not a medical service, but doctors and specialists will come into the community to see patients. Amenities include an exercise area, a full-service restaurant and areas to socialize.
“We view our buildings as a grand-scale home,” said Michael Stoller, LCB managing partner and CEO.
