PEABODY — Bishop Fenwick High School was briefly evacuated on Monday afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered.
Deputy Fire Chief Richard Nelson said the school was evacuated at approximately 12:20 p.m. after a suspicious suitcase was found. Initially, students and staff were sent outside to the rear of the building, but due to less to advantageous weather conditions, the children were moved inside to the auditorium, he added.
Firefighters, Peabody and state police determined that the package was not a danger. Students were out of class for less than 15 minutes, Nelson said.
“You have to treat it like it could be something,” Nelson said. “They took all the proper precautions … You always have to be prepared that it’s something real.”
