LYNN–A Lynnway crash late Thursday night killed an off-duty Chelsea police officer.
Officer John Bruttaniti, 41, was killed in the 10:20 p.m. crash, according to published reports quoting Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes.
State Police blocked off the Lynnway between Commercial Street and Marine Boulevard and initial reports indicated the crash involved two motorcycles.
Kyes was quoted in a Friday morning report as saying Bruttaniti was headed home when the crash occurred. He described Bruttaniti as a former Chelsea firefighter who received the Police Department’s Lifesaving Medal in 2015 for saving a toddler who was choking on a penny.
The crash was the second fatal accident on the Lynnway this year. A Feb. 27 vehicle crash killed two people.
