Staff Report
A Revere police officer suffered minor injuries when a driver rear-ended his cruiser on Route 1 South in Malden at midnight Thursday.
Denny D. Miller, 43, of Newburyport, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence for a second offense, failure to move over for an emergency vehicle and failure to take care in stopping or starting, said State Police spokesman David Procopio.
Miller was arraigned in Lynn District Court Thursday and bail was set for $2,500. He must also remain alcohol-free, cannot drive a vehicle while the case is pending and must carry a portable breath test.
His attorney Randy Chapman said the bail amount was unreasonable, but declined further comment.
Procopio said the officer was working a pothole repair detail in the right travel lane. The investigation determined that the suspect ignored signs, arrow boards and police lights warning him to move over to the middle or left lanes.
Emergency medical personnel took the officer to Massachusetts General Hospital.
The suspect was taken to the State Police Revere barracks.
The right lane was reopened to traffic at 1:15 a.m.
Miller is due back in court Aug. 24.
