SAUGUS — Officer Stephen Rappa has been promoted to Police Sergeant.
Rappa scored at the top of his department on the civil service promotional examination. He received several letters of recognition from the department, including a performance letter of recommendation from Chief Domenic DiMella.
“He will be a great addition to my command staff,” said DiMella. “He has shown through the years that he’s a hardworking officer, and he’s just done a great job up until this point.”
In his letter, DiMella described Rappa as an exemplary officer who worked hard for the opportunity.
“I respect the chief a lot and I respect what he’s done for the department,” Rappa said. “To have him recommend me to be part of his command staff means everything to me.”
Town Manager Scott Crabtree, a former police officer, said he wished him the best success in his new role.
“I’m proud to appoint Sergeant Rappa,” he said.
Rappa grew up in Saugus and has worked for the department for about five years. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Southern New Hampshire University.
He has wanted to work in law enforcement for most of his life, he said. His new role includes overseeing the patrolmen on the street.
“It’s more responsibility but it’s all good responsibility, he said. “To be a part of the police department and have the opportunity to grow in the department means a lot to me. I grew up in the town, I love working for the town, and I’m really happy to continue to have the opportunity to help the community that I grew up in. It’s really big for me.”
