SAUGUS — The Saugus Softball 10-11 Year Old Little League All-Stars defeated Wyoma, 17-7, earlier this week at Belmonte Middle School to claim the Massachusetts Section 2 state championship.

The win is Saugus’ first sectional softball championship. To reach the championship game, Saugus defeated Wyoma, 13-3, and Assabet Valley, 25-5.

Leading the way in the preliminary games was the battery of pitcher Fallon Millerick and catcher Felicia Reppucci. Millerick went the distance in both games while Reppucci cut down four against Assabet Valley. Also assisting Millerick defensively were infielders Maddie Goyetch, Lilly Brazis, Ryann Maloney, and Arianna Costello.

In the outfield, Elise Rego, Kali Pennachio, Molly Cummings, Meghan Hammel, Tayla Walsh, and Adri Bowker all made key contributions. Cleanup hitter Corinne Halley provided power and Fallon Hunt stole seven bases over two games.

In the championship game, Saugus fell behind, 2-0, after an inning, but scored score four in the bottom of the inning, which included a key two out hit by Ryann Maloney. Saugus blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth, scoring eight runs that inning, with Halley’s two-out single being the big hit. Goyetch and Brazis also got key hits. Millerick went the distance, striking out six.

The Saugus Softball 10-11 Year Old Little League All-Stars was managed by Buddy Millerick. He was assisted by Mike Halley and Dan Rego.
