MARBLEHEAD — Our Lady, Star of the Sea, provided the following announcement: In the June 30 edition of the The Pilot, the Archdiocese of Boston published a list of future collaboratives with the dates for their inception. The list appeared in the print and online versions of The Pilot, and the list was also sent to parish leaders across the Archdiocese. Immediately, following publication of this list in the print edition of The Pilot, the Archdiocese notified Father Michael Steele of a grave error in the list concerning Our Lady, Star of the Sea Parish, Marblehead. The list indicated that Our Lady, Star of the Sea will enter into a collaborative with Sainte Anne Parish, Salem, to begin four years from now in 2021.
Father Paul Soper, Secretary for Evangelization and Discipleship for the Archdiocese, telephoned Father Steele to assure him that this was a mistake. Presently, there are no collaborative plans for Our Lady, Star of the Sea Parish. Father Steele has requested in his discussions with the Archdiocese during this collaborative process that Our Lady, Star of the Sea stand alone as an independent parish. In fact, the status of both Our Lady, Star of the Sea Parish and Sainte Anne Parish is still under discussion. When a decision is reached, we will inform you immediately, but that decision is not expected to be imminent.
