City Councilors have a busy meeting tomorrow night with public hearings, including a request by Massachusetts Patient Foundation Inc. (MPF) to open a dispensing-only treatment center for medical marijuana at 487-491 Lynnway.
The Newton-based firm, operating dispensaries in Oregon and Colorado, is seeking a special permit to open a store at the 4,631 square-foot Cooper-Lewis building on the Lynnway.
MPF was one of two companies given preference to launch in the city by the council earlier this year. The other was Old World Remedies. The Marblehead company plans to operate a shop on Western Avenue.
Both companies must negotiate a host agreement and get a special permit. Mayor Judith Flanagan Kennedy said last month she is negotiating with both companies and expects to reach an agreement soon.
In 2012, Bay State voters approved making marijuana legal for medical use and in 2016 pot for recreational use won at the polls.
New business before the council includes a request by the mayor to forge agreements with the MBTA and North Shore Community College to provide Lynn youth with discounted ridership passes.
The council will also vote on a resolution in support of an environmental site assessment of the lot at 83 Willow St. to, according to the council agenda, “facilitate redevelopment” of the site.
Other council hearings Tuesday include Iglesia de Dios Pastor Cristobal Garcia’s request for a sign permit at 16 Union St. and sign permit requests from Dollar Tree, 15 Joyce St.
Public hearings requested for the council’s August 8 meeting include one on the city’s annual action plan for use of federal housing appropriations, including Community Development Block Grant and homelessness elimination money.
Kettle Cuisine has also requested a sign permit for 330 Lynnway with the council review scheduled for August 8.
Mobilitie has requested council permission to attach cellular communication equipment on existing poles at Eastern Avenue and Lambert Street; Western Avenue and Belleaire Avenue; Commercial and South Common streets and Hanson Street at the Lynnway.
