LYNN — A Sunday night motor vehicle stop led to an arrest for firearm offenses and crack cocaine distribution.
Tyrone Lites, 37, of Boston, nearly drove into a undercover detective at the intersection of Lafayette Park and Chestnut Street, which led to his car getting stopped. Lites didn’t have a driver’s license so he was arrested, said Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly.
During a pat-down before Lites was placed in the cruiser, the detective felt an object in his pants, on the right side halfway down his leg. The officer thought it was packaged narcotics, so he shook Lites’ right pant leg and a sandwich bag with several twists of crack cocaine fell out. Lites was put in the cruiser and picked up the narcotics, Donnelly said.
Donnelly said the vehicle was illegally parked and had to be towed. During an inventory search before the tow, police opened the trunk and found a loaded .45 caliber handgun. Lites doesn’t have a license to carry and the gun had a defaced serial number so he was additionally charged, he added.
A search of the vehicle yielded another twist of cocaine. In total, 12 twists, or eight grams, of crack cocaine were seized, with a street value of $480, along with $3,009 in cash, the .45 caliber handgun, a C02 revolver also found in the trunk and an iPhone, Donnelly said.
Lites was charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, crack cocaine possession with intent to distribute and firearm-related offenses.
