BOSTON — A Medford man was arrested after striking two State Police cruisers while speeding on Storrow Drive and injuring a Lynn man who was standing outside his car early Sunday morning.
Eduardo D. DaSilva, 28, was charged with OUI liquor, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, and failure to change lanes for an emergency vehicle.
Two state troopers stopped a motorist, a 24-year-old Lynn man, for motor vehicle violations on Storrow Drive eastbound at the Charles Street exit. Both cruisers had their emergency lights flashing and were parked in a line behind the stopped vehicle, state police said.
The troopers left their cruisers, and had the Lynn man step out of his car during their investigation. Around 2:40 a.m., a speeding KIA Sportage utility vehicle traveling eastbound on Storrow Drive struck the first cruiser from behind, a marked 2009 Ford Crown Victoria, pushing it into the cruiser parked in front of it, state police said.
The impact of the crash pushed the second parked cruiser, a marked 2014 Ford Explorer, into the Lynn man who had been stopped for traffic violations and was standing outside of his car. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.
The two state troopers involved in the initial traffic stop were not injured. The Crown Victoria cruiser and the suspect’s car each sustained heavy damage and had to be towed. The other police cruiser sustained minor damage.
