Staff Report
Bay State gasoline prices fell four cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.
A price survey finds self-serve, regular averaging $2.21 per gallon. That price is six cents below the national average $2.27 for regular. One year ago, the average price in Massachusetts was 54 cents higher at $2.75.
“Prices have actually gone down since Memorial Day, reversing the traditional pattern of higher summertime prices,” said Mary Maguire, AAA spokeswoman, in a statement. “Last year, the prices jumped nine cents between the two holidays.”
Strong supplies and lower prices are contributing to record numbers of Americans traveling this summer, she added.
The range in prices in Lynn from the latest MassachusettsGasPrices.com survey for unleaded regular is 42 cents, from a low of $2.23 at Prime Energy at 969 Western Ave. and Ida Street to a high of $2.39 at Gibbs at 240 Western Ave. and Chestnut Street.
