BOSTON — A former Revere resident who had been deported to Guatemala was arraigned Monday in Suffolk Superior Court.
Rony Vasquez, 42, faces charges of child rape a decade after he was indicted for sexually assaulting the child two weeks after returning to the U.S. He was held on $100,000 bail, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.
Vasquez was ordered to have no contact with the victim and her family, and all children under 16, surrender his passport and wear a GPS monitoring device.
Prosecutors said Revere Police arrested Vasquez for alleged sexual contact with an 11-year-old girl in 2006. An investigation showed that he had allegedly assaulted the child on previous occasions.
Vasquez was indicted three months later, but was deported to Guatemala that year, before he could appear at his Suffolk Superior Court arraignment. A warrant has been out for his arrest.
Prosecutors said U.S. marshals learned through a fugitive investigation that Vasquez planned to travel from Guatemala to the U.S. last month to visit a relative. When his plane landed in Houston, marshals took him into custody.
He is scheduled to return to court in September.
