LYNN — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of committing a string of convenience store armed robberies throughout the city over the past month and a half.
Nine related robberies have been reported from late October through this past weekend. In all but one of the incidents, a handgun has been shown, Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly said.
Most of the robberies occurred after dark and money was stolen in all but one instance. Police said it’s not clear if the suspect has been fleeing the stores on foot or has a vehicle to take off in. The suspect is believed to be a Hispanic man in his 20s. More than $1,000 has been taken.
Donnelly said there doesn’t appear to be a pattern and police suspect the man might have a drug problem, but definitely has some kind of issue.
“It’s somebody who is desperate and has a problem,” Donnelly said. “They’re down and out, they need help, they need money. They’re just doing this to survive. Hopefully, we can catch him before someone gets hurt.”

The first robbery happened at 10:12 p.m on Oct. 29 at Richdale, 59 N Franklin St. The suspect didn’t get any money because the clerk struggled with him. When the clerk refused to open the cash register, the suspect struck him on the head with a gun and fled, Donnelly said.
During the two robberies last weekend, at Corner Store on Market Street and Little Caesars Pizza on Market Square, the suspect reportedly racked the slide of his gun when he demanded money. Donnelly said he’s becoming more aggressive.
Other robberies include Convenience Station on Western Avenue, which has been hit twice, CVS on South Common Street, Richdale on Chatham Street, Jenny’s Convenience Store on Henry Avenue and Tedeschi Food Shops on Lewis Street. The CVS robbery was the lone occasion where a gun wasn’t shown.
