LYNN — A man who allegedly kidnapped his son and assaulted the child’s mother was arrested on State Street Wednesday.
The suspect, Rosba Taylor, 25, is in police custody, and his son, 3-year-old Kyrie Taylor, appears unharmed, according to Massachusetts State Police.
State and Plymouth police spent the morning searching for the man. Rosba Taylor, also known as Randy Taylor, was estranged from the boy’s mother and does not have custody of the child. The assault allegedly occurred at 8:50 a.m. on Algonquin Terrace in Plymouth, where the mother and son live, police said.
Rosba Taylor is known to have ties to Lynn.
Around noon, a police car was stationed in a State Street parking lot, with Kyrie Taylor inside. The child was later picked up by a police officer, and taken to the Lynn Police Station, where he was set to be met by his mother.
The black Honda CRV used by the father was towed from the scene.
“Great job by LPD (Lynn Police Department) officers today,” Lynn police wrote on Facebook. “Officers on patrol received a BOLO (be on the lookout) from Plymouth Police Department for a vehicle involved in a parental kidnapping. Alert officers spotted the suspect vehicle on State Street and took the suspect into custody without incident. The 3-year-old has since been reunited with his mom. Another example of the excellent police work that goes on everyday.”
Watching all of this unfold were Regina Vasquez, 45, and Tiffany Smith, 29, both of Lynn, who are also mothers. Vasquez has four children and Smith has two. The friends said they would be terrified if anything similar happened to their kids.
Vasquez said she walked by and saw helicopters. She said she wasn’t sure what to think, and thought it may have been a drug raid. When she saw the child taken from the police car, she said he looked scared, and didn’t know what was going on.
“I would be devastated to have my child in that situation,” Vasquez said. “He’s so innocent. I’m glad he’s in a safe place.”
Smith said she saw a police officer talking to the suspect in the car, and thought it was a drug deal gone bad.
“It’s a shame,” Smith said. “It’s just really sad. As a mother, I’d be terrified. I’d be relieved to know that my son is now safe. Just that fear of the unknown is terrifying.”
Rosba Taylor was booked by Lynn police, and transferred to Plymouth police, where the incident started, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
Taylor is expected to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court Thursday morning on charges of assault and battery on a family member, parental kidnapping, and reckless endangerment of a child, according to Plymouth police.
