LYNN — Internationally recognized clinical psychologist, school consultant and award-winning author Dr. Catherine Steiner-Adair will open the Lynn Catholic Schools Impact Speaker Series Monday at 7 p.m. at City Hall Memorial Auditorium.
Steiner-Adair will discuss developmental levels of children and the effect technology may have on them; the positive use of technology in schools; the impact of interpersonal communication in and out of school; and the challenges schools face when parents are not aware of the impact of technology.
“We are very excited to have Dr. Steiner-Adair launch the speaker series,” said St. Mary’s Head of School Grace Cotter Regan. “She has a message that is important and valuable for parents and teachers to hear. We encourage people to take advantage of this opportunity to hear that message.”
Steiner-Adair is the author of “The Big Disconnect: Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age” and “Full of Ourselves: A Wellness Program to Advance Girl Power, Health and Leadership.”
Steiner-Adair is a research associate in the psychiatry department at Harvard Medical School, an associate psychologist at McLean Hospital, and works with teenagers, adults, couples and families at her own private practice in Chestnut Hill.
The inaugural event is hosted by Lynn Catholic Schools, a partnership that includes St. Mary’s, Sacred Heart and St. Pius V.
Lynn Catholic Schools was formed in 2014 with $500,000 in gifts from William and Jane Mosakowski of Swampscott and the Catholic Schools Foundation, who also made a five-year commitment to providing funding to Lynn Catholic Schools.
Students at St. Mary’s, Sacred Heart and St. Pius V receive increased scholarships and tuition assistance and the schools are provided with additional resources for academic instruction, enrollment strategies and professional development.
Half of the money donated by the Mosakowskis and the Catholic Schools Foundation will be used for scholarships and tuition assistance and the other half will be used for programming, enrollment, professional development and marketing.
Monday’s event is sponsored by The Daily Item and free to the public. All parents, teachers, mentors and friends are welcome to attend.
