PEABODY – On Saturday afternoon, State Police arrested a man on Route 1 in Peabody in connection to a carjacking incident.
State Police received information from Danvers Police that Guillermo Jose Torres, 37, of Boston, had just carjacked a 2004 Ford Explorer, according to a statement from State Police.
Trooper James Maloney of the Danvers Barracks noticed the vehicle traveling at a high speed in the breakdown lane on Route 1 South around 3:15 p.m. He was able to initiate a vehicle stop, said the statement.
After a brief struggle, Torres was placed under arrest and booked at the Danvers Barracks on charges of receiving a stolen vehicle, using a vehicle without authority, resisting arrest, operating on a suspended license, a breakdown lane violation and speeding. He will be arraigned in Salem District Court on Monday, said the statement.
