LYNNFIELD — The owner of a mansion that was the site of a fatal shooting is appealing the town’s decision to deny short-term rentals of his property.
Following the death of 33-year-old Keivan Heath of Randolph at a house party on May 29, the town building inspector filed a cease and desist order against 8 Needham Road owner Alexander Styller.
At the time of the shooting, Styller was renting the $3.3 million house for $1,400 per night on California-based Airbnb Inc., and other online rental sites.
Selectman Richard Dalton said Styller is taking the case to state land court after a recent decision by the Zoning Board of Appeals to uphold the building inspector’s cease and desist order.
In October, residents voted to amend the town zoning bylaws to ban short-term rental of single-family homes in residential districts.
Essex District Attorney’s spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan said the homicide is still under investigation and that she is unaware of any arrests made in connection with the case.
Kimball Monahan said Styller’s zoning dispute with the town is completely separate from the ongoing criminal investigation associated with Heath’s death.
Town Administrator James M. Boudreau said he has no additional information about when the case is scheduled to go to court or how long it will take to reach a resolution.
Styller did not respond to a request for comment.
