SALEM — Ahead of award-winning singer-songwriter John Legend’s March 30 visit to Salem State University, the university will offer a discount to those who purchase tickets on Sunday — the day of the Oscars. Legend plays the role of a musician in “La La Land,” which is up for 14 Oscars during the 89th Academy Awards, at which he will perform music from the movie.
The promotion offers a free ticket with the purchase of any full price ticket on Sunday only, for those who enter the promo code “OSCARS.” Tickets can be purchased at salemstate.edu/series.
Legend’s visit to Salem State, part of the university’s long-running and popular Speaker Series, will be March 30, 7:30 p.m., at Rockett Arena. Legend will perform some of his hit songs in addition to discussing his initiative, the Show Me Campaign, which focuses on education as a key to breaking the cycle of poverty. At the event, Legend will receive the inaugural Salem Advocate for Social Justice award from The Salem Award Foundation.
“Legend’s role in ‘La La Land’ and this weekend’s Oscars has elevated what was already much excitement around his visit,” said Nicole Giambusso, spokeswoman for Salem State University. “We all look forward to hearing Legend perform some of his hit songs and talk about his social justice work on campus in March. This Oscars-day-only offer is a way to celebrate Legend’s recent work in one of the most talked about movies this year.”
