This destination is the British Virgin Island’s best place to spend time with the ones you love.
By STACEY MARCUS
If a genie granted me three wishes I would use the first one to charter a private plane to drop me in Virgin Gorda and have Valley Trunk’s General Manager Christopher Tilling drive me directly to the Estate. After a brief orientation we would meander along the resort’s 19 acres, taking note of the tropical gardens and amazing architecture and then retire to the infinity pool where I would simultaneously gaze at Tortola in the distance and admire the luscious landscape.
I would then cherry-pick my favorite relatives and friends and ask the genie to deliver them to Valley Trunk Estate so they too could delight in this world-class property that was previously enjoyed by the Wildenstein family as a private holiday home.
My final wish? We would never leave. Ever.
It is easy to see how Valley Trunk Estate, named for the indigenous Trunk Back Turtles, could be a place for the Wildenstein family to create indelible family memories. Here are eight reasons why this destination is the British Virgin Island’s best place to spend time with the ones you love.
The vibe brilliantly fuses relaxation with luxury.
The ideal number of people you would want to have with you at Valley Trunk is 16, however, special arrangements can be made for larger groups. The eight individual bedroom suites are spacious and the perfect place to rest after a day outdoors. Each villa has charm and décor that is simple and sophisticated without being opulent. I applaud the family, which recently opened its doors to guests for the first time, for maintaining the Estate’s original intention of being a private retreat where all can relax in a beautiful setting. Indoor and outdoor spaces make for easy living. I loved all the delicious details like Hermes amenities, a hamper to place your laundry (which was instantly returned freshly pressed) and a hand-painted bag to tote stuff to and from the pool and beach.

It is the ultimate all-inclusive property.
Valley Trunk Estate is truly a bespoke experience. You outline your preferences, make your reservation, pack your bags and leave the rest to Mr. Tilling and his attentive crew. Chef-prepared meals, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, use of the property’s 68-foot yacht for day excursions, transfers and on-island activities are all included.
You have exclusive use of the private yacht.
The use of Xanadu is part of the package. We had a fabulous time snorkeling in the crystal clear waters and eying homes of such luminaries as Richard Branson.
The cuisine is elevated to an art form.
The cuisine at Valley Trunk is just divine. A personal chef creates magnificent menus featuring the freshest ingredients prepared creatively and passionately. You can actually taste the love in the freshly prepared cuisine. Days began with a buffet breakfast brimming with fresh fruits and homemade breads and pastries. The chef will also joyfully prepare your personal morning favorite. One of my most memorable meals was a lunch we enjoyed on Xanadu featuring plump, fresh lobster, and a variety of colorful salads including a mouth-watering caprese.
You can begin your day with yoga, tennis, a workout or walk along the trails.
I loved beginning the day with a nice stretch and good intentions from our resident yogi. Enjoying poolside yoga before a glorious breakfast set the tone for a great day. You can also enjoy tennis, working out or a brisk walk around the property’s gorgeous nature paths.
It’s close to Virgin Gorda’s favorite places.
Whether you want to visit Virgin Gorda’s well-known Baths, hike the trail to Gorda Peak, island- hop, fish or dive, activities are all close by and the crew is more than happy to take you anywhere your heart desires.
You can relax in the Bali House.
One of the property’s outstanding features is the Bali House. The beachfront house was discovered in Bali by the family, deconstructed and lovingly rebuilt on the Estate property. It is a magical setting to enjoy a meal or relax amid tropical gardens overlooking the beach. We enjoyed our final meal in the Bali House and then were taken to the beach for a surprise bonfire under the stars.
The Wildensteins give back.
The Wildenstein family is committed to protecting not only the beloved Trunk turtles that nest every year on the beach, but is devoted to such sustainability projects as coral regeneration and best sustainability practices.
