LHAND upgrades Curwin Circle
Lynn
The Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development (LHAND) previously contracted with an architectural firm to create a master redevelopment plan for the Curwin Circle federal family public housing site. But due to a lack of available funding, the complete redevelopment of Curwin Circle has not been possible.
In order to address the needs of the development, the LHAND has begun to replace vinyl siding on buildings, re-shingle roofs and renovate bathrooms and kitchens when units become vacant. Eleven Curwin buildings have received new vinyl siding, and the damaged areas on five additional buildings have been repaired.
By the end of the year, Curwin units will have received approximately $200,000 worth of new roofing. The management team expects to re-roof approximately 22 buildings overall. Other projects that are in the planning stages include landscaping work, repaving of walkways, and the installation of privacy fencing.
Summer youth workers are currently landscaping throughout Curwin, as well as performing work at other LHAND housing sites across the city with assistance from the Department of Public Works. The city, through the efforts of Ward 7 Councilor Rick Ford, has committed to street and sidewalk repairs, while the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission is actively repairing catch basins at Curwin Circle.
